Poet’s Retreat

UPDATE: The retreat is currently closed January-February 2020 in preparation for the new museum exhibit opening on February 28. Please feel free to book a stay from March on!

Need a perfect getaway in the quiet, rural countryside? Need a place to unwind and write or draw or simply relax and read? The Poet’s Retreat is for you. If this small, beautifully-decorated house doesn’t inspire you, you cannot be inspired!

The enchanting bedroom with full-sized bed, creates a peaceful and motivating place to unleash your creativity.

The house also has a full bath, kitchen with all appliances, and living area with a twin bed.

The newest addition to the Retreat is a replica of Emily Dickinson’s bedroom, which has a twin bed in it.

Plus, you will be next door to the museum, which you can visit anytime you want. A middle-of-the-night visit is especially fun.

We are located a few miles west of Locust Grove, Oklahoma on 438 Rd. From Tulsa, we are just 45 minutes east. The address is 6603 S 438 Rd.

Please book your stay at the Retreat through Airbnb.

Note: This is a true retreat space, with no WiFi or cable TV (though there is a TV with local channels connected to a DVD for movies). Because of the nature of the space, no pets are allowed. Adults and older children only, please.

Everything was perfect! I had a magnificent experience.  I stayed up until 4:30 this morning just playing! Thank you!

Walk back in time, to a simpler day when life was a little sweeter, imagination was more free and simplicity ruled the day. Everything you need is right here, from the old fashioned chenille throw to the aqua formica counter tops you had as a kid. Birdsong rings from dawn to dusk. Nights fold you into a darkness that brings the deepest rest. Creative energy infuses not only the walls but the land as well and if you wander a bit you may see turtles, deer, rabbits, cardinals, blue jays, cows, horses and three incredibly companionable dogs. Everything you could need is there, including a corkscrew. I cooked delicious meals, had fantastic, special coffee and enjoyed every second. The cottage is clean through and through and as charming as it gets. No bugs at all. No critters either. The home resonates with welcome. It wants guests there. I was a woman traveling alone and felt safe and snug. Shaun is an outstanding host. She leaves great info about the town and retreat and coffee beans to grind. I never left the property. I was happy to stay put, but there are a few restaurants and a grocery store. I will definitely be returning the next time I wish to withdraw from the world a while.

  1. After an evening at the tellabration campfire my husband and I stayed on at the “Poet’s Retreat”. What a comfortable county place, and so pretty to boot! Like staying at grandma’s farm house, plus a creation studio for all that inspiration that flows from hanging out at the museum. I highly recommend an evening or two at the “Poet’s Retreat”. 2. Enjoyed a wonderful evening around a roaring campfire. Friends, family, and familiars. I grew up camping and hadn’t been to a campfire storytelling event in a long while. It was great hearing the stories and meeting the tellers. The children in attendance will have fond memories of this night.
