Event & Activity Details
Open Mic: The museum will have an outdoor Open Mic event the second Thursday of every month from 6:30-7:30 p.m.Poetry, stories, jokes, music, magic acts, and more are all encouraged. Material must be appropriate for all audiences. Cash prizes will be awarded to those who read their poetry or anyone’s poetry. Prizes for other talents will also be awarded.
LTAI, Let’s Talk About It: This is a program sponsored by Oklahoma Humanities and is a book club discussion group with the theme of Oklahoma: Private Investigations. It is free to join, and the club will read 5 books and 5 different scholars from Northeast Oklahoma will present programs with refreshments with each book.
Champagne Ceramics: This event is for adults (21+) and will involve painting a ceramic teapot and adding poetry and a wildflower plant to it. Champagne and appetizers will be served. Tickets should be bought in advance at our website.
Basket Weaving Workshop: Join Cherokee artist Louisa Soap in learning how to make a small basket to take home. All supplies are free but space is limited so sign up in advance online at our website.
ROMP 9th Anniversary: Help us celebrate 9 years of being open on this day by visiting the museum and having a piece of cake. All visitors will get a free prize!
Dark & Scary Night at the Museum: This event will be a Halloween celebration with a poetry reading and awards for the Dark & Scary Poem Contest given out.
Nothing Like the Sun: Drumming Workshop & Circle: Drummer River Roberts, Chicago, will host a workshop to show some basic rhythms on the djembe and doumbek. She will also host a drumming and rhythm circle that invites all kinds of musical instruments. Bring a drum or rhythm instrument or borrow one of ours. Free, open to everyone.
Eldrena Douma: Storytelling Workshop: Eldrena Douma, our Tellabration featured storyteller, will give a free workshop on storytelling. Anyone is invited, though sign up in advance is mandatory.
ROMP Tellabration: Tellabration is an annual storytelling event that usually takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year, ROMP welcomes special guest storyteller Eldrena Douma. Eldrena grew up in New Mexico and Arizona among her Pueblo tribes of the Laguna, Tewa and Hopi. She will tell pueblo stories and family stories, both personal and humorous. The event will be held in the ROMP garden outside. Refreshments provided. Free.
Emily’s Birthday: Celebrate Emily Dickinson’s birthday by visiting the museum. All visitors will get a free prize!
