Event & Activity Details
Wonder City Wordfest: An all-day poetry treasure hunt at various locations in Locust Grove, ending in a prize when you put together the poem at the end of the hunt! Big cash prizes and gift certificates! Free fun for all ages.
Craft Days: We will have a poetry craft available to do on certain days: Earth Day, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, and Veterans Day.
Poem in Your Pocket Day: Come in with a poem in your pocket, read it to us, and get a prize!
First Monday at the Museum: This is a time for the kids to come and do a fun activity involving a craft and poetry every month. It is geared toward ages 5 and up, though anyone can participate.
State Wildflower Day: This celebration will honor Oklahoma’s State Wildflower Day but will specifically be a celebration of artist Alysha Little, who created the illustrations for the Firewheel Folk exhibit book. There will be a book signing, refreshments, meet and greet, and free copies of the book given out.
Seasonal Celebrations: Each season is celebration by a day when visitors are encouraged to bring in original poems they wrote about the specific season. A coloring/poem contest will be held for kids, ages 0-12, for each season. Prizes will be given for every poem.
Exhibit Celebration: This will be a celebration of this year’s museum theme of Oklahoma Wildflowers in Poetry. The daylong event will include a nature talk, wildflower Chautauqua, poetry reading, and other activities for all ages. Awards for the Oklahoma Poem Contest will be given out on this day.
LTAI, Let’s Talk About It: This is a program sponsored by Oklahoma Humanities and is a book club discussion group with the theme of Oklahoma: Private Investigations. It is free to join, and the club will read 5 books and 5 different scholars from northeast Oklahoma will present programs with refreshments with each book.
Dark & Scary Night at the Museum: This event will be a Halloween celebration with a poetry reading and awards for the Dark & Scary Poem Contest given out.
Visitors to the museum will have their names put in the pot for a big door prize on these days: National Poetry Month Kick-Off, ROMP 9th Anniversary, and Emily Dickinson’s Birthday.
