At Moon Valley Road

leaf-rockStillness at the depths and movement
Above before the change, the contact
That transforms element, strips you
Of the life you have been, willing or not,
Which is not the question. Here,
In the icy crucible, you have no choice
But to relax into the new form, to prepare
For the impact on exposed skin, to hold up
The leaf, the rock, the shell, all that is above
And coming toward you like this day.
