A Reckoning

svalley7What happens to pine needles?
They get wise and smell strongly
Of no place you have ever been.
Where do daffodil petals go?
They rely on the wind and spread news
To the beetles and river rats.
Why do the ditches hide turtles?
They know what fools they are
And how enticing is the journey.
How do the webs know where to end?
They reach the chorus and switch
Instruments to allay the ennui.
Who tells the sun to call it a day?
It relies on the story and adds
Plot twists to keep you guessing.

Your questions allow the catalog
To continue. Keep asking. Keep listening.
